World Aquaculture Society

The World Aquaculture Society was founded in 1969 as the World Mariculture Society. Since it’s beginning the membership in WAS has grown to more than 3,000 members in about 100 countries representing the global aquaculture community. In order to meet the expanding international nature of the Society and to address specific needs in various areas of the world, the WAS has created Chapters in the United States, Japan, Korea, Latin American and Caribbean region, Asian-Pacific region and most recently in Africa.

USDA Aquaculture Website

Aquaculture is the production of aquatic organisms under controlled conditions throughout part or all their lifecycle. In 1980, Congress declared “… that aquaculture has the potential for reducing the United States trade deficit in fisheries products, for augmenting existing commercial and recreational fisheries, and for producing other renewable resources, thereby assisting the United States in meeting its future food needs and contributing to the solution of world resource problems. It is, therefore, in the national interest, and it is the national policy, to encourage the development of aquaculture in the United States.”

Recirculating Aquaculture: Overview and Discussion Feb 20th 2021

SAVE THE DATE! 
As many of you saw in your Ohio Aquaculture Association 2020 Winter Newsletter, the Ohio Aquaculture Association and OSU (thanks in part to funding from NCRAC) are putting on a free 2-hour workshop one Saturday a month from January to June 2021.
This month is “Recirculating Aquaculture: Overview and Discussion”. Presentations will be by OSU Extension and Ohio farmers. A previously recorded webinar on saltwater shrimp production will also be played and discussed afterwards. As always, we will have time for Q & A and then open period of discussion at the end of the day.
When? February 20th, 2021 from 10am-12pm Eastern.
Who can participate? Registration is free and anyone is welcome to join. Feel free to share with your state association. You must register to participate.
